
As infections surged sharply in several regions, India reported 5,233 new Coronavirus cases on Wednesday, 41 percent higher than a day earlier.
After 93 days, the total number of active coronavirus cases in India had reached 28,857, according to the Union Health Ministry.
According to government figures updated at 8 a.m., the number of deaths rose to 5,24,715 with the addition of seven new deaths. Since the start of the pandemic, India has recorded 4.31 million cases of Covid.
Last night, 1,881 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Maharashtra, an 81 percent increase and the largest number since February 18.
According to the state’s health agency, one other case of B.A.5 variation has been reported from the state.
In Mumbai alone, 1,242 new cases were reported, which is near twice as much as Monday’s total.
According to the government, India’s daily positivity rate was 1.67 percent, while the weekly positivity rate was 1.12 percent.
On August 7, 2020, India’s COVID-19 tally reached 20 thousand, on August 23, 40 thousand, on September 5, and 50 thousand on September 16.
On September 28, it reached the 60 lakh mark, on October 11, it surpassed the 70 lakh mark, on October 29, it surpassed the 80 lakh mark, on November 20, and on December 19, it achieved the one crore mark.
Last year, the country passed the depressing two-million-person mark on May 4 and the three-million-person mark on June 23.
