Lon Angeles: What do you think? Johnny Depp’s career may be revived following the US jury’s decision in favor of the actor in his libel case against Amber Heard.
Celebrating his victory over his ex-counter-suit wife for defamation damages, Depp told reporters on Wednesday that the jury “given me my life back.”
Celebrity agents, accountants, and attorneys testified in the high-profile trial in which they were challenged to determine if the former pair had scuppered the careers of their former partners.
During the trial, the jury heard from Depp’s side that Heard’s allegations of abuse cost him a $22.5 million paycheck for a planned sixth “Pirates” film.
Though the evidence presented by Heard’s legal team showed evidence of her ex-“unprofessional husband’s behavior,” which included drinking and drug usage, the singer’s shine had already begun to fade.
Actor Johnny Depp’s “damage is done,” says a Hollywood producer who has worked with Depp in the past but wishes to remain anonymous.
That said, I don’t think he’s going to land major studio roles where so much money is at stake.”
People are not going to put up with tardiness for a person who is no longer a star if they see him throwing bottles and consuming drugs and being late.
The producer noted that major Hollywood companies may have difficulty obtaining insurance for mega-budget projects starring Depp.
A billion-dollar franchise would be too hazardous for a guy like that, they claimed.
Depp’s box office appeal, particularly among women, may have waned due to the verdict and social media sentiment throughout the trial, but this does not guarantee that it will return.
He called Heard an “idiot cow” and referred to her as a “rotting corpse” in text messages produced during the trial, which the producer called “vile.”
‘Bad boy,’ they call him
Of course, Marlon Brando, Mel Gibson, and the rest of the Hollywood heavyweights have all experienced enormous box office success following major scandals.
According to Karen North, a University of Southern California professor specializing in reputation management, “I think there are studios that will be willing to deal with him at this time.”
she added, noting that Depp is “in public spotlight now as much as ever” because of his upcoming trial. Despite a string of recent box office failure, she said, “he’s almost always been very successful for the box office.”
Depp has never claimed that he was a mild-mannered do-gooder, despite the fact that he has bounced back from a string of drink and drug-fueled binges.
“People remark, ‘Well, I’m not surprised — it doesn’t affect who I think that person is,’ when someone is accused of being a bit of a bad boy…
According to North, “I think Johnny Depp is going to come back, it makes sense.”
That’s presuming that he wants to, isn’t it??” He’s in a good position to choose.”
Prior to the verdict, Depp played Jeff Beck’s guitar at a rock concert in England, which could indicate that he isn’t only interested in returning to the silver screen.
Films from France
In the event that he was to return to the silver screen, it would not necessitate a return to flashy Hollywood.
Indie darlings shoot for six to eight weeks, are paid $250,000, and acquire a 25 percent ownership stake in the film they’re making, according to the producer who’s worked with Depp on previous projects.
A role where the stakes aren’t as high and the budget is only a few million dollars could land him a nomination, and it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he surprised everyone with an incredible performance.
What if that doesn’t work?
“He’s going to work in Europe. Producer: “I mean, they don’t care about this kind of thing,” he remarked.
It is expected that he will direct French films. He’s going to make German movies. ”
